Teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hit a stunning 11-ball fifty for India A, breaking the record for the fastest half-century in List A 50-over cricket history.
The 15-year-old’s latest remarkable feat was as India A smashed 94 off 29 balls to post a total of 377-9 against Sri Lanka A, including 10 fours and eight sixes.
He faced just one dot ball at 50 and hit five fours and five sixes in the remaining 10 balls to bring up the landmark.
Previously, the fastest record in 50-over cricket was Thisara Perera’s 13-ball knock for Sri Lanka in 2021, while the fastest internationally was 16 balls achieved by South Africa’s AB de Villiers and West Indies’ Matthew Forde.
Sooryavanshi’s knock came on the same day that he was not included in India’s full squad for the upcoming one-day international series against England.
He was named in the T20 squad for the matches against Ireland and England the following month and is set to make his international debut after a remarkable rise, including being the leading run-scorer in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL).
Virat Kohli could return to the ODI side if he passes a fitness test after a hamstring injury, while fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is also included, but batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and all-rounder Hardik Pandya are ruled out.
The first T20 match against Ireland will be played on June 26, while the five-match series against England begins on July 1, followed by three ODIs on July 14.
