Saputo Cheese USA Inc. (SUSA or Saputo) is voluntarily recalling its cottage cheese products from Walmart stores due to the possibility that the liquid dairy ingredients used in the items are not fully pasteurized in accordance with state regulatory standards.
Although no illnesses or hospitalizations have been reported to date related to the recalled products, consuming products that are not fully pasteurized can pose serious health risks, especially to children and elderly or immunocompromised individuals.
This issue was discovered during a pasteurizer troubleshooting exercise conducted by SUSA in collaboration with the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
The affected products were sold under the Great Value label and distributed from February 17 to February 20 to Walmart stores and distribution centers in Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Includes the items listed in the chart below.
All products were sold in white plastic containers with white lids. The ‘Best Before’ date is on the side of the lid. To view photos of the product, Click here.
The affected pasteurizer has been returned to normal functioning and has been verified and sealed by the California Department of Food and Agriculture. No other products produced at the facility were affected.
Customers who have purchased the product should not consume it.
