Thousands of residents have been evacuated. A massive wildfire has reached the outskirts of Athens, with flames reaching 25 metres (80 feet) high.
BBC's Jessica Parker is on the scene and sees huge amounts of smoke coming out of the timber shed.
Homes and buildings, including a school, in nearby towns are burning as the wildfires continue to burn through the night.
Aircraft working to fight the fires had to land at sunset, and ground operations continued through the night. Residents complained about the lack of fire trucks and firefighters, and Greek authorities accepted offers of international assistance.
