
Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s National Rally, has announced her candidacy for the 2027 presidential election.
Le Pen also said she would appeal and attempt to appeal her embezzlement conviction, which would have required her to wear an electronic tag for a year.
“I cannot campaign with labels,” the national rally leader told French TV. “I wish to pursue all legal avenues to defend my innocence in this case.”
Hours earlier, the Paris Court of Appeal ruled she could run for president with the tag despite finding her guilty of misusing 2.8 million euros (£2.4 million) of EU funds for a fake jobs scheme.
