Watch the Apple Intelligence reveal and the rest of WWDC 2024 here

Apple kicked off its week-long Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2024) today with its customary keynote address at 1 PM ET/10 AM PT. The presentation focused on the company's software products and the developers that support them, including the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, VisionOS, and watchOS. But the biggest news came with the unveiling of Apple Intelligence, the company's major foray into the highly competitive AI market.

You can watch the archive on Apple's event page or watch the YouTube archive here via the embed right below. If you're curious about what predictions were made ahead of the event, all of the pre-event speculation is still captured below the YouTube embed. Otherwise, you can go here for a full recap of everything Apple announced at WWDC this year. .

Over the past few years, critics have pointed out that the company has lagged behind companies like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI in generative AI research. And our own Ivan Mehta emphasized the need to present AI products that actually help, not flashy keynote demos. CEO Tim Cook has been promising to address concerns about AI for some time, and there's no better time or place than the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino during WWDC.

Now rumors point to a potential deal with GPT developer OpenAI, aimed at leveling the playing field a bit. The latest report puts a name to Apple's AI efforts. Apple Intelligence is there with a warning that not all recent Apple devices will be able to use the new system. And there are plenty of rumors swirling about AI improvements in iOS 18 and a potential second life for Siri.

Meanwhile, new hardware is never a guarantee at software-centric events, but the company has made this a trend in recent years with the Apple Silicon update and last year's massive Vision Pro debut.

But the most recent rumors suggest that this will be an off-year for hardware, despite mounting pressure from Apple's lukewarm response to its first attempt at mixed reality and its decision to end its electric vehicle project.

The core will be iOS 18, but the company is also introducing macOS 15, including some major design changes to Calculator, probably the most useful app on the iPhone. And you can be sure that many of iOS 18's AI features will make their way to macOS 15 as well.

TechCrunch will report the news live from the Apple Park site.
