We are in a conversation on the future of the island, Mauritian PM says.

Mauritius said the United States will be presented in the future of Chagos Islands, which was the subject of controversial deals between Mauritius and the United Kingdom.

In October, the United Kingdom announced that it would officially hand over the sovereignty of the British Indian territory to Mauritius, but it announced that it will maintain a 99-year lease of Diego Garcia’s UK-US military air base.

The contract was reached with the former Moritius leader Pravind Jugnauth, but his substitute, Navin Ramgoolam, was very critical.

The progress has been delayed so that President Donald Trump’s officials can see the details of this transaction.

The contract, which was struck in October, which became green by BIDEN Administration, includes a British rental payment for the UK for British military aircraft bass.

But immediately after the contract began, Mauritius elected a new prime minister of Navin Ramgoolam, who wanted to reopen the negotiations.

In a statement on Instagram on ThursdayPrime Minister Ramgoolam’s secretariat said, “We have accepted the existence of a new executive in the United States in negotiations to further strengthen the process.”

Ramgoolam added that he was convinced that he would be “open and willing to” positive resolution “to” find a common basis. “

He quoted that the White House had asked someone in the talks in the full -body newspaper in the UK.

Earlier this month, Ramgoolam told Mauritian MPS that the previous transaction was not properly negotiated by the person he replaced and described it as “sold out.”

He said that the UK’s agreement to Mauritius is not evidence of inflation and should include a larger prepaid amount.

He also opposed the provisions that could unilaterally extend Diego Garcia’s lease for 40 years.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the US’s position on this contract was exactly unclear, but before last year, Secretary of State Marco Rubio raised a “serious threat.” He insisted that he gave an island to the country that had matched. Mauritius has a trade agreement with China.

In 1965, the United Kingdom controlled the Chagas system in the Mauritius colonies to move toward Diego Garcia base to evict more than 1,000 people.

Independence in the UK in 1968, Mauritius insisted that the island was itself, and the UN Supreme Court ruled that the British territorial administration was “illegal.”

Chagos Islanders (some are Mauritius and Seychelles, but other parts of the United Kingdom) do not speak in one voice about the fate of their hometown.

Some criticized the deal, saying that they did not negotiate in the negotiations.
