Rutte, like Stoltenberg, has been called a “Trump whisperer” for his public and private efforts to keep the unpredictable president on his side. Armed with a toolbox of praise, former Dutch leader Rutte is widely believed to have played a key role in bringing Trump back from the brink earlier this year when he threatened to “take over” Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory from fellow NATO member Denmark.
