What I want to wear this summer (’26) – Permanent style

Typically, the fourth split is the best split. Right? Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, fast and furious, an invisible threat… Oh crazy.

Well, here’s what this chapter is about: I’m looking forward to seeing what I’ll wear. The series is classic and energetic. Rocky IV And less ‘bat nipples’. batman and robin.

I won’t lie. There is a lot of pressure walking into a well-dressed gladiator PS arena. You’d think you’d get used to it by now, but alas, you won’t. That weight comes from the belief that I can’t really give advice that fits everyone (as much as I’d like to), especially when it comes to something as personal as style.

These recommendations are purely I am I’m looking forward to wearing it, and if anything I stumble across along the way provides a bit of inspiration, I consider it a win.

As the great Dominic Toretto said: “Ask any racer. Ask any real racer. It doesn’t matter if you win by an inch or a mile. A win is a win.”

So, without further ado…

1. Vest for fishing/photographers

Permanent Style’s readers appreciate niches. Right? Well, you don’t get much more niche than clothing designed to do only one of two things: fishing or photography.

Whether or not it can be used for other purposes is a style conundrum I often find myself stuck on. On the one hand, I strongly believe that clothing should be practical. This is especially true if it is designed for a specific purpose. And actually, I only wear this Colombian fishing vest when I’m shooting.

But the problem is that I like that image so much that I’m contemplating giving up my belief. sue me I’m a unique person and I don’t follow anyone’s rules. They don’t even follow my rules.

This vest meets many criteria. It’s a great layering piece, has lots of practical pockets, and is light so you can easily throw it in a tote bag if you like what the referee sees.

Finding a way to wear this vest without looking weird when you’re not holding a pole or a camera may be impossible. But I’ve always enjoyed a challenge.

The product I chose was a Colombian sportswear product. There were some prerequisites. I really didn’t want any of the little sheepskin ‘fly patches’ or ‘dry patches’ you see on some options. Obviously it needed a lot of pockets. And I didn’t want a collar because of the way I imagine it would lie over a fatigue jacket or shirt.

There are lots of great vintage options on eBay made from cotton, which ages well and washes well. I recommend looking for LL Bean or Woolrich.

2. Anthology Patchwork Madras Jacket

I am an advocate of dressing for the season, not the season. If it’s lighter, layer it. If it’s heavier, go alone. However, there are some fabrics that look out of place if you try to wear them in the wrong season. Enter stage right: Patchwork Madras.

I love this jacket, but I can only wear it from late May to September if I’m lucky. Stay busy in September. The seasons in Ireland can be somewhat harsh.

That means there is a limited amount of time you can wear this, and you will wear it up, down, left, and right. Because of this, dressing up or dressing down isn’t always easy.

Jackets and shorts are problematic and don’t always seem to work. So I developed a tried and tested two-step process to determine whether it works.

Step 1: eye test. A quick look in the mirror can tell you whether something has passed or not. I’ve been doing this long enough that I don’t know what a costume looks like in terms of palette and proportions. You don’t always have to move on to step two, but if you feel like you’re pushing any kind of sartorial boundary, call it out.

Step 2: A test to ask a long-suffering wife. As much as I say this with my tongue firmly in my cheek, I’ve found that the more vocally my partner objects to a get-up I throw at him, the more authentic he is when he says, ‘Your up is awesome.’ After all, I don’t dress to be sexy, I dress to be a homie who wears menswear.

3. Denim jacket

If spring isn’t the season for layering, then when is? There’s nothing I love more than traveling for business from March to mid-May and having to pack for 27 different ambient temperatures.

Some of you may be thinking I’m exaggerating, but what can you achieve when you go from a rainy but somehow frosty Belfast airport to an airport lounge that is unconscionably hot for some reason, board an air-conditioned plane, rush to a sweaty, packed train into the city, then go down to an even sweatier, more packed tube and finally arrive at your destination? Knee pits… And then when it’s time to go, will they reverse the entire sequence?

A denim jacket is the elixir to fight this sartorial werewolf.

It’s stylish, layerable (see a trend here?), and easy to wash when you get back from the concrete jungle. Honestly, I think that using a washing machine can be an underestimated standard when it comes to menswear.

4. Rent Plage Court

LEJ is covered Permanent style a few times But I’m here to double down on Luke Walker, the genius of heaven.

This LEJ Plage coat in brown herringbone cotton is my favorite spring/summer essential. I have been waiting for months and months to kick this man out again.

There are a variety of colors and fabrics available online, but the most important thing for me is the detailing for the discerning eye. As Manish rightly points out: He and André reviewed the LEJ proposal. The longer point collar, half belt at the back, and attractive price point (depending on the fabric) compared to other products really set it apart.

A lightweight layering piece perfect for changeable weather or cold summer evenings.

5. Grenson Fisherman’s Sandals

Fisherman’s sandals are an interesting thing. By now, you’ve all probably seen these shoes somewhere. They’ve been ubiquitous over the past few years, and while they may not necessarily be to everyone’s tastes, I think there’s still life in these old dogs. Listen to me.

Personally, I’ve yet to see a smart summer shoe that can be comfortably worn with a suit or tailoring in warm weather. I enjoy wearing Belgians and espadrilles, but after wearing them for a long time, Belgians don’t provide enough support and honestly, espadrilles feel too casual.

But the Fisherman Sandal comfortably fills that gap. This piece has a Goodyear welt that allows it to be re-brushed when needed, ensuring it lasts a long time and is structured enough to be easily worn all day long. The same goes for stomping around the cobblestone streets of Italy.
