Have you ever had trouble matching your wallet to your clothes? Sometimes it can be very frustrating because there is no color that matches the tone of your top or pants. There are colors you might not think would go with your outfit, but they can add a truly fun pop to the end result. Adding a pop of color like red can make even a t-shirt and jeans combination look more modern, youthful and trendy. Some of these colors may seem obvious, but there are others that are incredible in their versatility. We want to let you know which colors work at any time of the day!
multicolored
This goes without saying, but multi-colored bags can go with almost anything. This is especially true if the color is the same as the color of your outfit. Choose a solid color that matches at least one color in your bag while adding a little fun to your outfit. Alina added a fun pop to her all-white outfit with the multi-colored print on her Gucci bucket bag.
metallic
Some people don't automatically think that metal wallets would be considered versatile, but that's not true. Metallic versions in a variety of colors, including silver, pewter, and gold, can add glamor to an outfit while also acting as an accent. Some colors, such as purple, stand out when combined with a metallic handbag.
This goes without saying, but the next time you're looking for your everyday carry-on, a black handbag is usually the way to go. It may not seem like a big deal, but it is a color that can stand out in neutral outfits and goes well with an all-black chic finish. Like the Yves Saint Laurent bag photo below, an all-black outfit can stand out even more with hardware. This classic color is a must-have for every fashionista and you should have at least one in your wardrobe.
White, another classic, is an ideal color because it can come in a variety of off-white shades, up to bright colors. White accentuates and coordinates with the colors you're wearing and can be dressed up or down. The biggest downside to either of these bags is that they require maintenance as they can get dirty easily, but they still have an ideal refreshing finish to your outfit.
Neutrals at best, charcoal gray and light gray fall on different ends of the spectrum, but both can be matched equally easily. Charcoal is much more neutral than a black bag as it is the closest to black without being too dark. Light gray goes well with any outfit, especially when paired with silver-toned jewelry.
Like neutral tones, browns and tans can easily fit into any outfit. Many people think these colors are ideal for denim or casual attire, but you can pair a brown or tan handbag with formal or professional attire as well if you find the right color.
Beige/Nude/Cream
Move away from bright white and try neutral bags in nude or cream colors. Like a good pair of nude pumps, a neutral-toned bag can set off the warm undertones of other colors and create a contrasting finish to match your skin tone. Delicate in every way, the Monogram Empreinte of the Louis Vuitton cream Neverfull tote bag adds pop to a crisp white lace top and denim jeans.
When you think of outdoor activities and nature, green is the perfect neutral handbag color. Unlike many of the other colors mentioned, green can be a bit difficult to pair and requires that you pair it with cool or warm tones. Olive green, on the other hand, goes well with neutral colors and is great as long as you keep the color going through other accessories.
Red, the color of love and passion, can be a bright, neutral color or a dark burgundy color that allows for variety and versatility. Red goes well with any season and is virtually a color that can be used all year round. It's bold without being overpowering, and if you look at the color wheel, you'll see that red, a primary color, goes well with just about anything. For example, the bright red color of sheepskin not only goes well with white and blue, but this Chanel wallet with chain is an ideal everyday companion.
So which colors are the most versatile?
Well, there is no clear answer because all these colors can go well with any outfit in different ways. However, we think black, brown, tan, and beige/nude are the closest answers because they are more complementary. The key to matching is paying attention to shades and tones and understanding how colors work with each other to find the right companion.
