If anyone can be trusted to escape the winter and spend another Christmas in the sun, I can guarantee it’s us… And it was us! We decided to fly to Thailand for Christmas and New Year, swapping our eyes for the sun, our couches for the beach, and our delicious roast dinner for a delicious Thai curry. Yum yum, yum yum!
Now, if you are looking for recommendations on where to stay and where to go in Thailand, this blog post might be a great fit for you. We don’t stray too far from Phuket (except Krabi), as we have a house in the south called Rawai, which my father built six years ago. But let me highlight some of the other places we visited and stayed. (Worth mentioning if you’re planning on heading out there anytime!)
Instead, I hope this blog post is highly relevant to sun-loving babies (like us) who jump at any opportunity to escape winter and need a little wardrobe inspiration as they face the hotter, more humid climate this time of year.
All sources are listed below every image along with links to where they can be purchased.
So, if you’ve been to Thailand over Christmas, you’ll know that you’re generally guaranteed hot weather, which can be quite humid and maybe a little rain here and there, but it’s not known to last for long. With this in mind, OVER PACKing can become a common occurrence, which in our experience is a huge mistake. In fact, out of all 15 days, I wore flip-flops and sandals along with a bikini and throwover for 13 of them. That’s my main element.
If you’re heading to Thailand for a two-week vacation over Christmas, I’d limit your luggage to the following items: (Please note that some of the outfits we’re wearing in these photos were purely to pack some good content into some outfits – not necessarily essential items if you’re trying to pack light! In other words, two-piece outfits): Flip-flops, sandals, 3-5 bikinis / beach wraps / two-piece / sunnies / sun hat / denim shorts / a couple of t-shirts / jacket or blazer / a couple of shirts / skirt And that’s probably all you need!
Mangosteen Resort & Spa – After a very fun and busy New Year’s Eve, we checked in to the Mangosteen Resort & Spa for a few days of pampering. It’s only 10 minutes from my home in Rawai.
We each had our own little wooden villa with a view of the sea in the middle of the jungle, each of which was so lovely. Over those few days, we enjoyed a very healthy vegan menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I really took my time to relax with a full body Thai massage, body wrap and spa session.
If you are in Phuket and want to relax for a few days, this is a must!
Krabi
After spending a few days in Phuket, we visited my brother, sister-in-law and Neice, who had rented a beautiful villa in Krabi. This is the place for those looking for a nice villa stay while they are here.
Krabi is much less busy and polluted than where we were in Phuket, and is generally much greener and almost jungle-like. We spent a week there over Christmas, and although it wasn’t very Christmassy to say the least, it was also amazing. We floated in the pool drinking beer on Christmas Day, and hired a Thai chef to cook us a delicious Thai feast for dinner!
If you’re in Krabi, rent one of the boats on the beach for a day and explore the nearby islands. In particular, when you get close to the coral island, it looks like a scene from Jurassic Park with the steep cliffs and huge palm trees in the background.
