Why did China ban drone sales in Beijing?

China has banned the sale of drones in Beijing and requires a permit to fly them under new rules that take effect Friday.

Drones and their major components are prohibited from being sold, rented or brought into the Chinese capital. Drone owners must register their devices with the police.

Drones and flying taxis are part of the so-called low-altitude economy, a strategic priority for China, which is expected to generate more than 2 trillion yuan ($290 billion, £217 billion) in sales by 2035.

The BBC’s Laura Bicker looks at why China has tightened regulations on drones, citing public safety concerns.
