Why is Israel targeting bridges in Lebanon?

An Israeli airstrike on Sunday damaged the Qasmiyeh Bridge, one of the main routes linking southern Lebanon with central Lebanon, near the coastal city of Tire.

This comes after Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement that the Israeli military had been instructed to destroy the Litani River crossing that Hezbollah was using to send reinforcements.

Many Lebanese fear that Israel is seeking to cut off southern Lebanon from the rest of the country ahead of a major invasion, and that refugee families may not be able to return to some areas.

More than a million people have become refugees, which could lead to a serious humanitarian crisis.

BBC Middle East correspondent Hugo Bachega reports from Lebanon.
