Wildfire evacuation warning mistakenly sent across Los Angeles

After two days of dealing with wildfires that have burned thousands of acres, residents across Los Angeles County received a wildfire evacuation warning Thursday afternoon that was a mistake. Soon after, officials sent a follow-up warning that the notice was only being sent to people near the Kenneth Fire in Woodland Hills.

Los Angeles County shared a message with X explaining what happened. “A countywide evacuation order was inadvertently issued for residents near the Kenneth Fire currently burning in the West Hills. This alert is intended for residents of Calabasas and Agoura Hills only.”

CBS News quoted a local official who said the alert containing the broken URL was sent “due to a technical error.”

Many wildfires are burning in the Los Angeles area, and officials have confirmed at least six people have died. CNN report. LA County has a population of about 10 million, which is “the largest population of any county in the nation,” according to the county website.
