Wilfried Nancy has been sacked by Celtic after just 33 days in charge.

The Frenchman has suffered six defeats in eight games since taking over as the club’s permanent manager, replacing manager Brandon Rodgers.

His final game was Saturday’s 3-1 home loss to Rangers.

A club statement read: “Celtic Football Club has today announced its decision to terminate the contract of manager Wilfried Nancy with immediate effect.

“The club would like to thank Wilfried for his efforts and wish him and his family all the best for the future.

“Wilfried’s assistants Kwame Ampadu, Jules Gueguen and Maxime Chalier will also leave the club and they take our good wishes with them.

“The club can also confirm that Paul Tisdale has left his role as Director of Football Operations. We thank Paul for his contribution to that role.

“Further updates will be provided to supporters as soon as possible.”

‘tactics? ‘What tactics?’

Nancy was criticized for immediately introducing and sticking to the new 3-4-3 formation.

He went on to insist there could be “improvements”, but former midfielder Stiliyan Petrov said: “What tactics? I haven’t seen anything yet. You can only talk about tactics when you see something positive.”

“The positive thing is that winning games, you can put yourself in a position where people can judge you.

“The only judgment regarding Wilfrid Nancy at this time is negative.

“Watching his interview (at Tannadice) I felt sorry for him because, you know, it wasn’t his fault.

“Unfortunately, when you get the chance to be Celtic manager you have to produce quickly.”

Should Celtic have learned Martin’s Rangers spell?

Allison Conroy on Sky Sports:

Rangers took a risk in the summer when they appointed Russell Martin. He may not have been the fans’ choice, but the Rangers hierarchy admired the way he built the team and the style of football he wanted to play.

The problem was that his supporters turned on him almost immediately.

His football philosophy may have looked good on paper, but he had a squad that could not deliver on his plans.

Martin lasted 123 days.

Nancy’s term was even shorter. Is it fair to say that Celtic should have learned something from their Old Firm rivals?

The Frenchman’s philosophy and style convinced the board that he was the right man to replace Brendan Rodgers, although not all fans were convinced.

Questions were raised as to whether the players could execute their style of football. Sound familiar?

Another thing that sounded familiar was the post-game interview.

After painting with Dundee, Martin said: sky sports: “It’s a great learning experience for the players. Today is a completely different challenge for them and it will be a better challenge going forward.”

After Celtic lost to Rangers, Nancy claimed: “I see a lot of good things, so that’s why there’s frustration, because we deserve better and we need to be together and things will move forward.”

At Celtic and Rangers, fans demand a win.

Martin found out the hard way. Celtic seem to have learned little from that era at Ibrox. And Nancy’s ending wasn’t that great either.
