Moscow suffered the heaviest attack on Ukraine since full-scale war began. Nearly 200 drones struck targets around the Russian capital, sending thick plumes of smoke high into the sky.
Seventeen people were injured in the Moscow region, according to regional governor Andrei Vorobyov.
The Russian Defense Ministry said it intercepted and destroyed nearly 1,000 drones and four Ukrainian cruise missiles in 24 hours. One person was killed in an attack on an oil depot in the southern Rostov region.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kiev had once again hit the Moscow region with “long-range sanctions,” a euphemism for Ukraine’s long-range attacks on Russia.
BBC’s Russia editor Steve Rosenberg reports.
