Callum Maycock’s first-half finish gave AFC Wimbledon a 1-0 win over relegation-threatened Northampton. Northampton are currently winless in six League One games.

The Dons were ahead in the early stages and Myles Hippolyte nodded Isaac Ogundere’s threatening cross just wide of the right post.

The early pressure paid off in the ninth minute as Maycock hammered Marcus Browne’s excellent cutback past Lee Burge to give the hosts the lead.

James Tilley combined speed and skill to rush into the penalty area in the 20th minute, but his dangerous low cross was safely blocked.

Tilley continued to impress as the first half progressed, producing a crafty strike from the edge of the box that forced a fine save from Burge.

Burge was called into action again on the stroke of half-time to prevent Maycock’s powerful strike finding the bottom right corner of the Northampton goal.

As the visitors pressed for an equalizer after the break, Joe McDonnell came down quickly to deny Tom Eaves.

Northampton also went very close in the 60th minute, but McDonell produced another fine save to block Jake Evans’ shot.

Browne cleared the line in an acrobatic effort near the end of the crash.
