It may be hard to remember, but George Clooney and Brad Pitt co-starred in ‘Wolfs,’ a movie that Apple released just two months ago.
On Friday, the film’s writer and director, Jon Watts, said Friday that there will be no more sequels. “I no longer trust (Apple) as a creative partner,” he explained in a follow-up interview with Deadline.
The company is reportedly scaling back its film strategy. For example, “Wolfs” was scheduled for a large theatrical release, but instead played in a limited number of theaters for just one week before being released on Apple TV+.
Watts, who created the new Star Wars show Skeleton Crew, said Apple’s changes were “a complete surprise and were made without any explanation or discussion.”
“I was completely shocked and asked that they not include the news that I was writing a sequel,” Watts said. “They ignored my request and announced it anyway in a press release, which seemed like it would bring positive change to the streaming core.”
In response, Watts canceled the project, saying, “I quietly returned the money I had given to make a sequel.”
