Women’s Cricket World Cup: England’s Sophie Ecclestone challenges herself to ‘achieve her feat’ by Nat Sciver-Brunt | cricket news

Nat Sciver-Brunt says Sophie Ecclestone is challenged to ‘leave her mark’ by representing England at the Women’s Cricket World Cup.

Sciver-Brunt was the star of England’s 89-run win over Sri Lanka, becoming the first batsman to score 500 runs in ICC Women’s World Cup history. She hit a whopping 117 runs.

She also took two wickets as Sri Lanka were bowled out for 164 and England secured their third successive win.

Ecclestone, who joined Sciver-Brunt in the bowling attack, put in a fine performance, finishing with 4 for 17.

“Isn’t she wonderful?” said Sciver-Brunt of Ecclestone.

“Handing her the ball and being able to pick up four wickets without having to run much is very special.

“But from the moment she joined the team at 16, we knew we had something special on our hands.

“She has really grown over the last few months and we have challenged her to improve and perform well for the team and herself and I am really excited for her.”

England play Pakistan next Wednesday and have further group matches against India, Australia and New Zealand.
