World Wide Technology Championship: Ben Griffin wins third PGA Tour title of the year in Mexico | golf news

Ben Griffin avoided the mistakes that slowed two challengers on Sunday and sank three long birdie putts for a 9-under 63 to win the World Wide Technology Championship, his third PGA Tour title of the season.

Griffin two-putted for birdie on the par-5 18th hole at El Cardonal in Diamante to win by two strokes. He joined Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy as the only players to have at least three wins in 2025, one of which was Griffin’s team event in New Orleans.

Griffin, who was playing for the second time since his Ryder Cup debut, made five consecutive birdies starting in the 8th. That included a 40-foot putt on the par-3 11th to tie the lead, a 25-foot putt on the 12th for a first outright lead, and a 25-foot putt on the par-3 16th to pretty much seal it all.

Griffin has now risen to 9th place in the world rankings.

Ben Griffin earned his third PGA Tour title of the year by winning the World Wide Technology Championship on Sunday.

He recorded birdies in all four par 3 holes in the final round.

“I made a few birdies early and then I pushed myself a little harder than I did the last few weeks where I was fighting to keep the pedal off,” Griffin said.

“Fortunately, my putter got hot so I made a lot of putts on the back nine. It was fun to stay focused and try to hold on until the end. It was nice to keep making couples.”

Sami Valimaki (64) and Chad Rami (65) received valuable consolation by tying for second place. Finland’s Valimaki started the week in 103rd place in the FedExCup before moving up to 76th and securing a spot for next year. Ramey moved up from No. 123 to No. 89 and looks like he can keep his card safe.

There are two tournaments left before 2026 takes the FedExCup top 100.

Griffin’s biggest challenge came from Garrick Higgo and Carson Young, who shared the lead until the back nine on another virtually windless day.

Higgo’s hopes were dashed on the 12th when he teed off into the bushes and had to be penalized for an unplayable lie, leading to a double bogey. He shot 68 and was three strokes behind.

Young made a 15-foot birdie putt on the 12th hole to tie Griffin at 27 under par.

But on the 13th his approach was down the left slope and across a cart road into native territory. He made bogey, hit a pedestrian pitch on the par-5 14th that just missed a birdie, and three-putted for bogey on the 15th. He shot 68 and tied for 6th place.

Griffin had no such problems other than a three-putt bogey on the fifth hole. He was solid from there, finishing at 29-under 259.
