X says it will discontinue its creator revenue-sharing program for unlabeled ‘armed conflict’ AI posts.

X said it would take action against creators who post AI videos about armed conflict without disclosing that the content was generated by AI. On Tuesday, X’s head of product Nikita Bier announced that people who use AI technology to mislead others in this way will be kicked out of the company’s Creator Revenue Sharing program for three months (90 days).

If you continue to post misleading AI content after the suspension has been lifted, your program will be permanently suspended.

“During times of war, it is important for people to have access to real information. With today’s AI technology, creating content that can mislead people is trivial,” Bier wrote in X. “From now on, any user who posts an AI-generated video of armed conflict without adding a disclosure that it was created with AI will have their creator revenue sharing suspended for 90 days.”

X said it will identify misleading posts through a combination of tools used to detect generated AI content and Community Notes, a crowdsourced fact-checking system.

X’s Creator Revenue Share program gives creators the ability to earn money by posting on the platform and sharing advertising revenue if their posts are popular. Although designed to increase the amount of compelling content found on Some have also criticized the lax content controls and requirement that creators pay X amount of subscribers to participate.

Considering how easy it is for AI to be used to create misleading photos and videos, prohibiting X from providing financial compensation to creators for this type of content is only a limited solution. When not at war, AI media is often used to create political misinformation or promote deceptive products in the influencer economy. All of these actions are still permitted under the new policy.
