XAI, an AI company of ELON Musk, acquired HotShot, a start -up that works for AI drive video creation tools along the SORA line of Openai.
Aakash Sastry, CEO and co -founder of Hotshot, published the news on Monday X.
“For the past two years, we’ve built three video foundation models with three video foundation models (HotShot-XL, HotShot Act One and HotShot). “We have been training these models to see how global education, entertainment, communication and productivity will change over the next few years. We are pleased to continue to expand these efforts in Colossus, the world’s largest cluster as part of XAI! ”
Headquartered in San Francisco was founded a few years ago by Sastry and John Mullan. Startup first focused on developing AI-based photographs and editing tools, but eventually preferred the text-video AI model.

HotShot has attracted VC investments, including Lachy Groom, Reddit co -founder Alexis Ohanian and SV Angel. The company did not disclose the scale of financing rounds.
The acquisition of HOTSHOT of XAI indicates that there is a plan to build its own video creation model to compete with SORA and Google’s Veo 2. MUSK suggests that XAI has previously developed a video creation model to add it to the Grok Chatbot platform. MUSK said in a January Live Stream that the “Grok Video” model is expected to be released in “several months.”
HotShot said on this site that it started making a new video on March 14. Existing customers will download videos made using the platform by March 30.
It was not immediately clear whether the entire hot shot employee would join XAI. SASTRY refused to comment.
