YouTube CEO Neal Mohan recently insisted he wasn’t worried about Netflix and other streaming services luring the service’s most popular creators.
Mohan’s comments came during a lengthy interview with the New York Times series The Interview, which, as Mohan noted, is streaming on YouTube. In fact, he seemed like a huge winner in most of the conversations. When asked by Oscar host Conan O’Brien about pranks on YouTube, Mohan simply responded that O’Brien is “very funny” and that “the Team Coco channel does really well on YouTube.”
As for popular podcasts like “The Breakfast Club” and “My Favorite Murder” moving to Netflix, Mohan said he’s glad competitors are “seeing us as a centerpiece of the culture.” But he said that when he talks to popular YouTubers, he says, “No matter what they try to do, they understand that YouTube is their home.”
“I’ve never seen a YouTuber completely remove their content from YouTube,” Mohan said. He added that when YouTubers negotiate with other platforms, those streamers will always “acquiesce to what we YouTubers ultimately know is the right decision for them in the long run, which is to never leave the house.”
