British rapper Yung Filly told a court that “there were good vibes” between him and the woman he accused of sexual assault after performing at an Australian nightclub in 2024.
The rapper, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, took the witness stand in the Western Australian District Court. Monday – a week after the trial began.
He was accused of sexually assaulting the then 20-year-old woman in his hotel room after performing in Hillarys, a coastal suburb of Perth.
Barrientos, 30, has pleaded not guilty to six counts of sexual penetration without consent, three counts of assault causing bodily harm and one count of strangulation.
Barrientos told the court he “liked” the woman when they met at a concert venue. He was in the VIP section and she was in the economy section, leaning over the barrier.
He denied touching her inappropriately.
“I remember putting my hands on her waist,” he told the court. But he said he never put his hands down her pants or touched her breasts.
Barrientos later said that “the mood was good” between them when they arrived at the hotel.
According to Barrientos, his security guards confiscated the woman’s cell phone. This was “standard practice” to protect personal information.
The court previously heard the pair had consensual sex before Barrientos turned violent and Barrientos told him to stop.
Barrientos, who was touring Australia at the time of the alleged offences, is also known for his work with YouTube collective Beta Squad, appearing on Channel 4’s celebrity version of Bake Off and presenting the BBC Three programme.
He was granted bail after being charged and was allowed to return to the UK for four months in September before returning to Western Australia ahead of his trial.
