Drink some tequila and make a margarita! These margarita recipes range from the classic combination of tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and agave to fruit margaritas, frozen margaritas, jalapeno-infused drinks, and more. They’re all refreshing, delicious, and easy to make.
With Cinco de Mayo approaching next week, almost everyone in Austin, Texas, where I live, will be sipping margaritas this weekend. Often confused with Mexican Independence Day (September 16), Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It feels like Mexican-American heritage is more broadly celebrated in Austin, and margaritas have always been a part of that.
I love making one of these easy margarita recipes at home rather than ordering it at a restaurant. Join me this weekend. You can complete it in less than 15 minutes!
Best Margarita Recipe
classic margarita
This four-ingredient recipe is my take on the perfectly tart and lightly sweet classic. As written, this recipe makes one serving, but can easily be scaled up to make a pitcher of margaritas for a crowd!
Some fun variations on this classic cocktail recipe:
- If you want to make a “skinny margarita,” don’t use any sweetener.
- Make the ultimate Cadillac margarita with Reposado tequila and Grand Marnier.
- For a lighter cocktail, replace the orange liqueur with orange juice.

You don’t need agave or simple syrup to make this marg. Blended watermelon gives it a naturally sweet taste! I like to add jalapenos to make it spicy, but this is completely optional. If you want the fruity flavor to shine, skip it.
