TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP: Scottie Scheffler wins FedEx Cup at East Lake, tops Collin Morikawa | Golf News

Scottie Scheffler capped off a dominant PGA Tour season by winning the FedEx Cup at the Tour Championship, beating playing partner Collin Morikawa.

The world number one went into the final round of the season with a two-stroke lead and never gave up the lead at any point throughout the tournament, although the seven-stroke lead was temporarily reduced to two on the final day.

Scheffler won the tournament with three consecutive birdies and a four-under 67 to finish the weekend at 30 under. With the win, he became the first player since Tiger Woods to win seven times in a PGA Tour season.

He finished four shots ahead of Morikawa with a final-round 64, including an eagle, five birdies and three bogeys, while Sahith Tigala finished third, ahead of Russell Henley, Adam Scott and Xander Schauffele.

Morikawa bogeyed the first hole and quickly fell seven shots behind Scheffler. Scheffler saved par by making an eight-footer and added a 15-footer on the next par-3, but he fought back with a proper birdie on the par-4 fourth.

Scheffler failed to get out of the sand to save par on the fifth hole, but matched Morikawa's birdie on the next par 5 when he bounced out of a greenside bunker and hit a tap-in to within tap-in distance, but the lead was cut significantly over the next two holes.

The Masters champion missed a 5-foot par putt on the seventh hole after getting bouncing off a tree, the first time he had failed to make a putt from that distance this week, then botched a bunker shot next to a driveable par 4 to record his second consecutive birdie.

Morikawa got up from behind the green and birdied to close within two of the leader, but Scheffler struck back by holed out his tee shot on the next par-3 putt, hitting it to within five feet.

Scheffler hit a wedge close to the 10th hole and converted from 15 feet on the 11th for his third consecutive birdie to open a five-shot lead, but Morikawa converted from nine feet on the 13th to close the gap again.

Morikawa fell further behind despite adding another birdie on the fifth hole, the 14th, while Scheffler moved closer to victory with an eagle from 15 feet to get to 30 under.

Scheffler, who shot four pars in the final stretch, could claim his 13th title on the PGA Tour and cap off the 2024 season with a bang. He became the first player to win The Players, Masters and Tour Championship in the same season.

Former U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clarke finished eighth at 17-under, while Rory McRoy and Shane Lowry finished the week a stroke behind with rounds of 66 and 68 respectively.
