With so many startups now offering AI bots that can do everything from listening and transcribing meetings to taking notes and gaining insights, companies in this space are offering additional feature sets and integrations to outbid themselves. You have to differentiate yourself.
One such company, Read AI, is trying to do this by integrating AI bots with email, Slack, and enterprise tools like Hubspot, Jira, and Confluence. And to accelerate product development, the startup said Monday that it has raised $50 million in a Series B funding round led by Smash Capital. Notably, the new round comes just six months after the startup raised $21 million in Series A funding.
Co-founder David Shim told TechCrunch that the company has seen strong customer growth since the startup’s Series A earlier this year, with more than 100,000 new accounts created since then, and that the company has sought to capitalize on that growth.
“In less than six months, we doubled our sign-ups, active users, and monthly recurring revenue, exceeding even our most aggressive expectations. “We are now leveraging this momentum to raise prices,” he said.
Shim did not disclose Read AI’s valuation, but said the valuation has risen in line with its growth.
Brad Twohig, co-founder and managing partner of Smash Capital, said that when he invests, he often looks for companies pursuing product-led growth, and Read fits that mold.
“I like finding companies in spaces that cater to large groups of people while also having an enterprise component,” he said.
Product Evolution
Read AI began supporting integrations with email, messaging, and meeting apps earlier this year, and today the company is launching a Chrome extension that can display calendars, meeting reports, additional options for quick meetings, and meeting insights.
The extension can highlight key points within long email threads and create email drafts that take into account the context of previous emails, messages, and meetings. It also highlights quick notes from meetings or Slack messages on the same topic.
Email clients from providers like Shortwave and Superhuman offer similar features.

Read AI offers a free Chrome extension. Shim pointed out that the new fundraising is another reason why they can develop and scale products like this and offer them at no cost.
“Wherever you work, we take that content, give you a summary, and make recommendations. This is a bigger opportunity, but there are bigger cost centers associated with it. We are focused on growing that market while maintaining our lead in terms of minutes,” said Mr. Sim.

Smash Capital’s Twohig believes services that transcribe meetings are becoming a necessity, but Read AI’s approach to deploying AI bots everywhere could turn them into great businesses.
“We encountered Read AI as an assistant attending meetings and taking notes. But when I sat down with David, we understood the broader vision and concept of co-pilots everywhere. “This tool helps me accomplish everyday tasks, keep useful records, and become a better teammate.”
Read AI currently has 40 employees, and the company aims to expand to 100 by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
Existing investors Madrona and Goodwater Capital also participated in the Series B round.
