Learn how to use Apple Intelligence’s ‘Image Playground’

Apple just released iOS 18.1.1, but it’s iOS 18.2 that includes some interesting image creation features like “Image Playground,” Apple’s image creation feature that creates cartoon-like images from text descriptions.

Here’s what you need to know about Apple Intelligence features, including what they are, how to use them, and when they’ll be available.

What is an Image Playground?

Image Playground is part of Apple Intelligence, Apple’s range of AI-based tools. The new feature allows users to enter text prompts and AI generates cartoon-style images.

You can access the Image Playground through a dedicated image creation app or a messaging app by clicking the plus (+) button to the left of the text box.

The Playground app is available on the home screen. Look for icons that resemble a white cat or fox (or other furry creature). I’m not entirely sure.

How to create an image with Playground

Using Image Playground is very easy. Similar to other image generators, there is a text input area where you can describe the image and allow the AI to generate an image such as “dog blowing out birthday candles on cake.”

If the results aren’t exactly what you want, you can adjust them using more detailed instructions or choose one of Apple’s recommendations. You will see several image options that you can swipe to select.

You can also upload a photo of yourself, your pet, or a family member to get an AI-generated image, and add elements like a party hat to wear or a beach background. You can also change the art style.

When will Image Playground be released?

Image Playground is part of the iOS 18.2 public beta. Anyone enrolled in Apple’s Beta Software Program has access to it. The official launch is expected in December.
