Audi has unveiled a new dual-motor electric off-road vehicle concept based on the Q6 E-Tron as it prepares its snow-covered sibling. The automaker has built a working prototype that lifts the vehicle by 6.3 inches and makes it 9.8 inches wider, giving it a stance that has never been seen before in American truck country.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner calls the “Q6 e-tron off-road concept” a “reinterpretation of the Quattro.” This is the company’s marketing term for its front-wheel drive models.
The extra ride height comes with four custom portal axles integrated into the wheel hub assemblies front and rear, which Audi claims increases torque at the wheels by 50 percent. Each axle is driven by an electric motor with a power output of 380 kW and torque of up to 9,883 lb ft. It’s an increase of 3,245 pound-feet of torque from the regular Q6 E-Tron, Audi’s first vehicle to be used on Volkswagen’s modular premium platform electric (PPE) platform (the new A6 E-Tron and Porsche Macan EV).
Although the vehicle is designed to climb hills as steep as 45 degrees, the company dropped the Q6’s top speed slightly to 108 mph. Regardless, no one should drive that fast in a lifted vehicle. This also makes the off-road concept a much more realistic concept compared to more sci-fi Audi concepts like the Mixed Reality Cockpit or the truly apocalyptic All-Terrain “AI:Trail” Activesphere Coupe/Pickup Truck Combo. headlight.
Audi’s Q6 E-Tron Offroad Concept will be put into action at the Fat International Ice Race in Austria on February 1st. The company will also showcase its execution through social media channels.
