Travel agency Audley Travel expands its portfolio in Japan with two additional destinations, Tohoku and Kyoto.
Tohoku, located in the rural northern part of the mainland, has cherry blossoms blooming until late April, giving travelers an extended period to enjoy the blossoms.
Must-see places in Tohoku include Sendai, the region's largest city and home to the Osaki Hachimangu Shrine; Matsushima, a bay dotted with islands and considered one of the most scenic spots in Japan; and Kakunodate, famous for its samurai history.
Guests who include Tohoku in their customized Japan itinerary with Audley will stay in a restored former samurai residence.
From Kyoto, Audley will take guests to the coastal town of Ine, home to 230 funaya boathouses built along the bay.
During your visit to Ine, you can stay at a traditional ryokan. The tour includes a visit to Amanohashidate, which offers beautiful views of Japan, as well as Kasamatsu Park, Motoise Kono Shrine, and other attractions.
