Bluesky adds a Mentions tab to the notification screen and adds username piracy protection.

Social network Bluesky has released a new update to its app that includes a separate mentions tab in notifications, a feature to prevent username spoofing, and new controls for sorting replies.

With the release of v1.96, the company announced the addition of a new Mentions tab, allowing you to view those posts separately. Until now, all notifications were under one tab.

Bluesky is also adding protection against username piracy by reserving the original Bluesky username (.bsky.social suffix) when you change your username to a custom domain. The platform says it only retains the most recent Bluesky usernames and they never expire.

Recent incidents have shown that the company is facing impersonation issues as people purchase domain names and reserve usernames in the names of known people who are not yet on the platform. People would also create separate accounts while switching to a custom domain to prevent others from using their original Bluesky username.

Bluesky is also adding a way to display replies below posts. Users can choose between linear and threaded views. You can also sort replies using various filters, including Most Popular, Oldest, Newest, Most Favorite, and Random.
