Ivan Juric has agreed an 18-month contract to become Southampton’s new manager.
The deal includes a rest option that will be reviewed this summer. Juric’s contract could be extended for a further two years if Southampton are not relegated this season.
Juric will take over as manager of Southampton after being sacked. Rome Last month he had less than two months to live.
Southampton have long been fans of the Croatian and the 49-year-old was shortlisted to replace Ralph Hasenhuttl when the Austrian was sacked two years ago.
Saints have also named West Brom boss Carlos Corberan and former Denmark boss Kasper Hulmand, while Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Roll has also been linked with the job.
Who is Ivan Juric?
Juric lasted only two months in Rome and was sacked in November.
The Croatian coach began his coaching career under Gian Piero Gasperini, who is now Atalanta’s innovative manager.
Juric took up his first job at Serie C side Mantova in the 2014-15 season after working on Gasperini’s coaching staff at Inter Milan and Palermo.
The following season, he took over the Serie B job at Crotone, helping Crotone get promoted to Serie A for the first time in the club’s history that year. However, he did not take them to the Italian top flight as he was offered to replace Gasperini at Genoa.
Juric then had three separate spells for Genoa in two years. He was sacked by the club three times between February 2017 and December 2018.
He finally found stability at Hellas Verona, where he was promoted to Serie A in 2019. With one of the smallest budgets in the league, he kept the team top of the table for two consecutive seasons before taking over as Torino manager.
The Croatian left Turin at the end of last season after three seasons in Serie A and took over as Roma manager in September this year after Friedkin’s group sacked fan favorite Daniele De Rossi. However, Juric did not last even two months as he was sacked with the Giallorossi sitting four points above the relegation zone.
