Christmas Ribbon Salad Ingredients

- Homemade Whipped Cream: You can make a homemade alternative to Cool Whip by mixing 1 cup of cold heavy cream with 3 tablespoons of powdered sugar.
- Layer transformation: Lemon Jello or pineapple are both good for the middle layer, raspberry or red gelatin (cherry, strawberry, cranberry) are good for the top, and lime, watermelon or green gelatin are good for the bottom.
- Pineapple Juice:Use only canned or bottled foods. Fresh pineapple contains enzymes that prevent the gelatin from setting properly.
- cream cheese:Be sure to smooth it out completely before mixing. Whisk until smooth, then slowly fold in the gelatin mixture, making sure there are no lumps in the middle layer.
- Color Exchange: Change the theme using gelatin flavors. Choose your favorite foods like grapes and oranges for Halloween or strawberries and blue raspberries for the 4th of July.
How to Make Christmas Ribbon Salad
Let’s get to the fun part of making a bright, wiggly layer Jell-O salad. This ribbon salad recipe is easier than it looks and the results are truly amazing.
- First layer: Place lime gelatin in a large bowl and whisk over boiling water until gelatin is dissolved. Stir in the cooled pineapple juice, then pour the mixture into a lightly greased 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 45 minutes or until almost firm or not fully set.
- Second layer: In a medium bowl, whisk lemon gelatin over boiling water until gelatin is dissolved. Stir until the mini marshmallows are almost melted, then add the cold pineapple juice.
- Combine: Place the cream cheese in a separate bowl and beat with a hand mixer until smooth. Add the whipped topping and mix until completely combined.
- Mix gelatin and cream cheese mixture: Slowly add gelatin mixture to cream cheese mixture. Then mix with a hand mixer until smooth. Once cooled to room temperature, carefully spoon and spread over the cold bottom layer. Place in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour until almost completely set. This layer tends to take a little longer than the jello layer.
- Top floor: Place raspberry gelatin in a large bowl and stir into boiling water until gelatin is dissolved. Add cold water, mix and let the mixture cool to room temperature. Pour over the chilled middle layer, using the back of a tablespoon to prevent dents. Cover and chill Christmas Ribbon Salad until completely set, at least 4 hours, or overnight, before serving.

Alyssa’s Expert Tips
Layering: Let each layer harden until mostly set (but not completely set). So when you add the next layer it will adhere cleanly. Make sure the cooled layer is not too cold, and allow the next layer to cool to room temperature before pouring.
