
Ons Jabeur said Cristiano Ronaldo was a “huge inspiration” to her after meeting the football great at the WTA finals in Riyadh.
The pair met after Ronaldo’s Al Nassr drew 1-1 against Al Hilal in the Saudi Professional League, with Javert praising the Portuguese footballer.
Former women’s world No. 2 Jabeur has been sidelined for the 2024 season since the Canadian Open this August due to a shoulder injury.
“I couldn’t believe it, he is such an inspiration to me,” Jabeur said. Sky Sports Tennis.
“As an athlete, his dedication to the sport is incredible. He was very focused on his routine. It was incredible and an honor to meet him.”
The Tunisian also met Al Hilal’s Neymar and offered to arrange a doubles match with legendary Brazilian footballer Ronaldo, whom he believes is better at tennis than Cristiano.
“Neymar was different. I spoke to him. He loves tennis and enjoys it,” added Jabeur.
“I asked him if he wanted to play tennis, but he said he wasn’t very good so he might play mixed doubles with another Brazilian player, Ronaldo.”
Jabeur feels healthy and strong
The 30-year-old also said he was getting fit ahead of the 2025 season and believed his body was resting from his shoulder injury.
The three-time Grand Slam finalist withdrew from the Mubadala Citi DC Open last August due to shoulder pain.
“I feel a lot better. It was a tough time for me, not only physically, but also mentally and mentally,” Jabeur said.
“It’s been a really tough four years to be in the top 10 and managing so many finals and losses has been emotionally draining for me, but I’m glad we were able to call it off.
“As a tennis player, it’s hard to take a break from work. I’ve been in so much pain this year and my body was crying out for help, so I was glad to hear that.
“I’m expressing (being healthy and feeling good) for next year and I’m feeling good about 2025.
“I hope good things happen and I’m going to enjoy every moment.
“It hasn’t been a good year for me, but I’m definitely learning. But I’ve taken all the positives from it, I’m learning a lot and playing in a beautiful tournament.”
