Various card versions
When you apply for the Nordstrom Credit Card issued by TD Bank, USA, NA, you may be offered one of two card versions.
- Nordstrom Store Credit Card: This card can only be used at local Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Last Chance, and Nordstrom stores or online shopping.
- Nordstrom Visa Credit Card: This card can be used for purchases anywhere Visa credit cards are accepted. You also get rewards on non-Nordstrom purchases.
Just-OK welcome bonus
If you apply for the Nordstrom Credit Card and are approved, you’ll receive a $40 bonus note to use on future purchases. Considering you’d have to spend $2,000 at Nordstrom to earn $40 at Notes, the bonus seems pretty solid. But how does it compare to other department store cards?
First, most other cards offer an on-site discount on your first purchase, so you don’t have to make a repeat purchase to use the bonus. Amounts vary, but are typically 15% to 35% off your first purchase. So if the offer is 20%, if you spend $200 you will get the same $40 discount. Naturally, the more you spend (or the higher the discount), the more you save.
That said, one advantage of the Nordstrom $40 bonus note is that if you choose to purchase something priced around $40, it’s like getting something for free.
Now, if you compare this bonus to the Amazon Prime Visa card, the bonus is not that impressive since Amazon is currently offering a $150 Amazon gift card for signing up.

Nordy Club Rewards
Before learning about Nordstrom credit card rewards, you need to understand Nordy Club, the Nordstrom loyalty program.
This is a free-to-join rewards program that gives you access to special offers and purchase points that you can use when you switch to Nordstrom Notes and shop in person or online at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack and Nordstrom Local. Members earn 1 point for every $1 spent at Nordstrom (some restrictions apply).
The more you spend and/or the more credit cards you acquire, the higher your Nordy Club status can be.
- Membership: Joining a club is at the beginner level.
- Influencer: It starts here automatically when you get a credit card. Otherwise, you’ll have to spend $500 within a year.
- Ambassador: You need to spend $5,000 per year.
- Icon: Must be a cardholder. and It costs $15,000 per year.
If you get a Nordstrom credit card, your rewards rate is 2 points per $1 spent. You will also automatically be moved to the “Influencer” level in Nordy Club. Once you reach Ambassador or Icon level, you will earn 3 points per $1 spent.
If you have the Visa version of the card, you get 1 point for every $1 you spend on non-Nordstrom purchases.
tip: Download the app to have more control over how you use Nordstrom Notes. For example, you can exchange 500 points for $5 or 1,500 points for $15 bills. Otherwise the note will be issued automatically. You’ll get a $10 note for every 1,000 points, or a $20 note for every 2,000 points if you’re an Ambassador or Icon member.
The expiration date of the note itself is one year from the date of issuance, so please note that you will lose the corresponding rewards after that date. Additionally, if there is no activity on your account for 12 consecutive months (including earning points, exchanging Nordstrom notes, or returning items for which you received points or notes), you will lose all rewards.
While this isn’t ideal, it’s better than other department stores (such as JCPenney) that offer rewards with much shorter expiration periods.
You will be notified when a note is published (if you have opted in to receive marketing emails). You can also check your rewards status at any time in your online account or in the app.
To use a note, you can ask a salesperson to view your account and apply the note. For online shopping, log in to your Nordy Club account to see which digital notes you can use at checkout.
If you have a paper note, enter the note number and access code or hand the paper to the sales associate.

How to Make the Most of Your Nordstrom Credit Card
To get the most out of this credit card, you’ll need to check the following boxes:
- You will never carry your balance. With a whopping 33.15% APR, you won’t want to pay interest on your purchases. Otherwise the reward becomes meaningless.
- Take advantage of early access and change offers. This is a perk only available to cardholders, and there are other benefits you can get just by signing up as a free member.
- Continue your Nordstrom purchases with your card. If you have the Visa version of the card, earning 1 point per dollar spent on non-Nordstrom purchases isn’t all that great. It’s better to get a regular rewards card for outside spending that will get you 2% or more back.
- Remember to use Nordstrom Notes. You have a year, but it’s easy to forget your notes if you don’t shop often. If you’re leaving money on the table, you’re probably not a loyal enough Nordstrom shopper to justify getting a card.
