Filipino BBQ Pork Skewers – Skinny Taste

Filipino barbecue pork skewers

If you want to create a delicious recipe that will wow everyone at your next BBQ, these Filipino BBQ Skewers are it. i tried this 7-Up Marinade It has beef, pork, and chicken, so it goes well with anything! Some of my other favorite skewers throughout the summer include grilled salmon kebabs, steak kebabs with chimichurri, and pesto chicken skewers.

Why we love this recipe

One of Tommy's good friends is Filipino and he always brings BBQ pork skewers to our summer parties. I got this recipe from him a few years ago! The marinade is great for any protein!! A few notes on this:

  • Marinade: It may seem like a lot of sugar and soy sauce are used, but most of the seasoning is also thrown away. I measured the amount of seasoning in advance and found that I had 2 cups left, and I ended up with 2 spoons left. I adjusted it like this in the nutritional information.
  • pork: Tommy's friend uses leaner pork, but I found the boneless pork chops had just enough fat. Feel free to use whatever cut you want.

Materials needed:

This is everything you need to make BBQ Filipino Pork Skewers. Check the recipe card below for exact measurements.

  • pork – I use country style pork ribs, but you can use any pork with some marbling. You can use chicken or beef instead.
  • 7-Up Marinade: 7-up soda helps tenderize pork and is commonly used in May dishes. It also adds sweetness. Soy sauce and a savory salty taste are added to the pork. White vinegar and lemon add acidity. Brown sugar provides the perfect balance of sweetness, while garlic, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (optional) enhance the flavor.

How to Make Filipino BBQ Pork Skewers

This is great for summer parties because you can prepare it in advance. Then, when your friends come over, fire up the grill.

  1. This is very easy. For best results, simply combine the marinade ingredients in a bowl, add the pork, and marinate for at least 6 hours or overnight.
  2. When ready, discard the marinade and place the pork on skewers. If you use bamboo skewers, be sure to soak them in water for 30 minutes to prevent them from burning on the grill.
  3. When ready to cook, grill over medium heat for 5 to 6 minutes on each side, or until cooked through.
