Russian authorities have tightened control over the country’s cyberspace, blocking access to global messaging apps such as WhatsApp and Telegram, and restricting mobile internet in some areas.
Russians told the BBC that the internet crackdown was not only affecting businesses but also cutting off their connections with the outside world.
“We are losing money every time the internet is blocked,” said Yulia, who runs a catering company.
Russian officials have insisted that curbing communications is for public safety, claiming that mobile internet outages are disorienting Ukrainian attack drones.
