Iran soccer team member changes mind about asylum offer

After seven members of Iran’s women’s football delegation were granted asylum by Australia, one member changed her mind and decided to return to her home country. The team protested against the Iranian government during an international competition.

“I was advised last night that one of the two people who decided to stay left and spoke with her teammates who changed their minds. We respect the context in which she made that decision. Unfortunately, at the time of making that decision, she was advised by her teammates and coach to contact the Iranian embassy to collect. My contacts confirmed that this was her decision and answered any questions you might want to ask.
