Team Great Britain's Olympic 800m champion Keeley Hodgkinson has ended her 2024 season prematurely, announcing on her Instagram account that an injury will prevent her from competing in the Diamond League meeting in September.

Great Britain's Olympic 800m champion Keeley Hodgkinson has had her 2024 season ended prematurely due to injury.

Hodgkinson, a nine-time 800m champion this year, won in France and was aiming to break the world record of 1:53.28 set by Czech athlete Jarmila Kratochvilova in 1983.

Hodgkinson looked back on his gold medal-winning performance and set his sights on setting a world record as his next goal.

The 22-year-old from Manchester made the announcement via Instagram, telling his followers:

“No more racing!! Unfortunately I had a small injury but this year I achieved everything I wanted. Thank you for all the love and support!! See you on the track next year.”

Hodginsson successfully defended her title at the European Championships in Rome earlier this year and broke her national record at the Diamond League meet in London ahead of the Paris Olympics.
