Australia’s Lucas Herbert impressed at last week’s Open at Royal Birkdale, taking a record win at the LIV Golf UK event in Staffordshire.
Herbert, who finished tied for sixth in the last men’s major of the year, finished 30 under par, four strokes behind champion Ryan Fox, to win the LIV Trophy in Rocester.
It was the lowest winning score since the circuit was created in 2022, leaving 30-year-old Tyrell Hatton six shots behind and nine shots in front of Bryson DeChambeau.
Herbert’s win was his second at LIV in 2026 after a May event in Virginia.
Herbert also set LIV records for most birdies (30) and most birdies and eagles combined (32) in the tournament after shooting a flawless 62 at 10 under par on Sunday.
He opened the tournament with an 11-under 61, including 10 birdies and an eagle, and his worst round all week was a 3-under 69 on Saturday.
Herbert shot an 8-under 62 in the second round of the Open earlier this month and said this after winning in Rochester, his second LIV season, after winning Virginia in May.
“It was good to play like this today with two of the best players in the world pushing me.”
Hatton shot nine shots under 63 on Sunday and said: “I wanted a fast start and I did that. But unfortunately Lucas did that too.”
“It would have been amazing to win in front of our home fans, we did our best. Lucas was amazing this week.”
