Sweden’s Linn Grant closed with a 5-under 65 for a three-stroke victory over Annika.
She was so in control of her game that she played 52 straight holes without a bogey. This streak ended on the final hole on Sunday when it no longer mattered.
This is Grant’s second LPGA title and her second trophy from the great Swedish tournament host Annika Sorenstam. Grant won the Swedish Scandinavian Mixed competition when Sorenstam and Henrik Stenson were co-hosts.
“They made this course look easy. It’s not easy,” Sorenstam said on the 18th green.
Grant, who has never been under a lot of stress, must have felt the same way. She finished at 19-under 261 and had a chance to set a tournament record until she bogeyed the final hole, her first since the first hole on Friday.
Jennifer Kupcho hit a birdie on the first hole to tie for the lead, but only briefly. Grant birdied the next hole and never caught up again. The Swede needed a 15-foot birdie putt to take a one-stroke lead after five holes, then took control on the par-3 ninth.
Kupcho made his second bogey in the first nine holes, and Grant made a 10-foot birdie putt to extend the lead to three strokes. The rest of the way no one got any closer.
Cupcho also finished with 65 strokes.
It was Grant’s second LPGA title.
“I’m glad she’s playing well because I think it’s helped me play better,” Grant said. “And overall, I thought whoever won was going to have a really good job.”
Mexico’s Gaby Lopez birdied four of her final six holes to finish third with a 65.
England’s Charley Hull tied for fourth place with 14 under par.
Grant was still an amateur and didn’t have time to extend his winning streak somewhere in the world every year until 2020, when he won twice in the Nordic Golf League. She has won titles on the LPGA, Ladies European Tour, LET Access Series, Ladies Sunshine Tour, Nordic Golf League and even the European Tour, which co-sanctions Scandinavia Mixed.
Defending champion Nelly Korda, a three-time winner at Pelican Golf Club, started six strokes behind but couldn’t keep up the pace. She closed with a 69 and tied for 15th.
