Manchester United manager latest: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer contacted by Michael Carrick about interim manager position | soccer news

Manchester United have begun talks with external candidates as they search for an interim manager to take charge until the end of the season, with three former Old Trafford favorites in the mix as they consider a possible return following the departure of Ruben Amorim.

Sky Sports News It was said that Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Both have spoken informally with the current caretaker about the possibility of taking charge until the end of the season. Darren Fletcher. Other candidates are expected to be called before a decision is made.

The focus is currently on finding an interim manager, but the club have not ruled out making a substantive appointment once they believe a suitable coach is available. To achieve this, United are considering a much wider pool.

Director of football Jason Wilcox is leading the process at United and, following initial informal conversations with candidates, he is expected to conduct more formal interviews before making a recommendation in the coming days. All final decisions are approved by Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

No timetable has been set but it is thought the club’s bosses will want to have someone in place before the Manchester derby on January 17. Fletcher is expected to take charge of the side’s next two games, against Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday and Brighton in the FA Cup on Sunday.

Fletcher himself is a contender for the interim role, but due to his current lack of first-team coaching experience, United’s management viewed him as a promising option for the future. Nonetheless, we’re told Fletcher has always maintained a rapport with the United players, the squad have been impressed with the early work he’s been doing with them so far and morale around the camp is pretty high.
