More than 3 million pounds of chicken fried rice, including those from the Trader Joe’s brand, have been recalled because of glass.

Portland, Oregon-based Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. has recalled 3,370,530 pounds of frozen, non-ready-to-eat chicken fried rice after consumers praised the glass in the product, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The chicken fried rice product was produced between September 8, 2025 and November 17, 2025. Due to the long expiration date, there are concerns that consumers may still have it at home. The following products are being recalled:

  • BEST BEFORE/MEILLEUR AVANT 1.53kg cardboard package containing 6 packets of frozen “Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese Fried Rice” with dates from 26 SE 09 to 26 NO 12.
  • BEST BY 20-ounce plastic bag containing frozen “Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with Fried Rice, Vegetables, Marinated Hen Meat, and Egg” with a date of September 8, 2026 – November 17, 2026.

The recalled products bear establishment number P-18356 within the USDA inspection mark. Trader Joe’s merchandise was shipped to Trader Joe’s retail stores nationwide. Ajinomoto items were only exported to Canada.

The problem was discovered after the company notified FSIS that it had received four consumer complaints regarding glass found in its products. There are no confirmed reports of injuries resulting from consumption of this product. Anyone concerned about injury should contact their health care provider.

Consumers who have purchased the product in question are advised not to consume the product.
