The PGA Championship has been dominated by American golfers for the past decade. But who’s ready to stop the action from continuing this week at Aronimink Golf Club?
The last 10 winners of the Wanamaker Trophy have all been from the United States and ranked No. 1 in the world. Scotty Scheffler He returns as the defending champion after a five-stroke victory at Quail Hollow Club last year.
Scheffler is a pre-tournament favorite to defend his title and record his fifth major win in as many seasons, and has finished second in each of his next two PGA Tour appearances, finishing runner-up at last month’s Masters.
Bryson DeChambeau Xander Schauffele, who has finished runner-up in the last two PGA Championships, is seeking his second win at the event two years after winning his first major title, and both players will likely challenge Scheffler for a major title.
Jimmy Walker (2016), Justin Thomas (2017, 2022), Brooks Koepka (2018, 2019, 2023) and Phil Mickelson (2021) have also won the PGA Championship during their 10th consecutive year of success in the United States, and there is plenty of contention to extend that record in Pennsylvania.
Are you on your way to winning another US PGA Championship?
Scheffler’s cumulative score in majors since the start of 2022 is 30 strokes better than anyone else’s, and the 29-year-old’s dominance in recent seasons has given him a chance to complete a career Grand Slam at the US Open next month.
Jordan Spieth you can follow Rory McIlroy This week’s win puts him in the Grand Slam club. It is his 10th attempt at winning the elusive major title, although he has been outside the world’s top 50 and outside the global top 10 since last June.
Former Ryder Cup player Chris Wood said: “He’s not a big deal, but I’d like to see Spieth win a Grand Slam.” Sky Sports Golf Podcast. “He takes golf and it’s a roller coaster ride, but I think it’s fun and provides great insight for people watching.
“After the form he’s shown over the years, he’s competed in almost every major he’s played and almost qualified for a career Grand Slam. The PGA setting probably won’t suit his game that well, but who knows, maybe he can putter? He might have a chance, but it’s unlikely!”

3rd in the world Cameron Young They’ve already won the Players and Cadillac Championships this season, and former FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay is also showing off his form and looking for his first major title.
“He (Cantlay) is on fire,” Rob Lee told the Sky Sports Golf podcast. “In the last four tournaments, he has had three top 10s and 12 finishes at the Masters, and has quietly come back to playing without making a sound.”
Aronimink’s European winner?
Australia’s Jason Day was the last international winner of the major, beating Spieth at Whistling Straits in 2015, while McIlroy has won the Wanamaker Trophy twice and is one of only three Europeans to lift the trophy.
After winning in 2012 and 2014, McIlroy ended an 11-year drought by winning the Grand Slam at the Masters last April, defended his title last month and is now hoping to become the first player since Jordan Spieth to win his first two majors in the same year.
“McIlroy is a dynamic player and after talking to him, he loves the golf course (Aronimink).” Sky Sports’ Wayne ‘Radar’ Riley said on Sunday. “(The course) is wide and I know how excited he is.
“I think he’ll be very difficult to beat and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get serious about hunting on Sunday afternoon.”
british Matt Fitzpatrick Already has 3 PGA Tour wins and FedExCup Champion this season. tommy fleetwood Often touted as a major contender, Justin Rose tied for third at last month’s Masters. All three players are among the European players challenging to win the PGA Championship.
“(Tommy) Fleetwood, (Shane) Lowry, (Jon) Rahm, (Matt) Fitzpatrick, (Justin) Rose, (Bob) MacIntyre – there are a lot of them (European contenders),” the 2002 champion. Rich Beem said on the Sky Sports Golf podcast:. “You can just go back and look at the last Ryder Cup team and go down the list.
“It wouldn’t be surprising to see a leaderboard with a lot of flags other than Americans on Sunday. I think this golf course will allow for that and I think you’ll see a lot of players come down and fight for this win.”
