Skull Coffin Shape Charcuterie Board Craft

Here are some Halloween craft ideas that are so cheap you’ll die! 💀

Consider turning a plain wooden cutting board into a fun skeleton charcuterie board with just a little paint and a $1 skeleton piece. This step involves first reshaping and staining the cutting board to make it look like a coffin. Then, paint it and attach the skeleton piece.

Create a delicious charcuterie board with cheese and crackers, or serve up a devilishly sweet treat!

Pottery Barn always has the cutest and most stylish seasonal decorations, including Halloween. But most of the items are pretty pricey. For example, this tray costs $99.

As soon as I saw the photo above, I was inspired to come up with a cheap DIY version for my home this year. I repurposed an old cutting board from Ikea, so my supplies came to under $25.

1

Spray paint the skeleton pieces and let dry.

2

Cut the wood board into the shape of a tube. I drew a line on the board with a pencil and then cut it with a circular saw. If there are any holes or uneven parts on the side, I used wood putty to smooth out any cracks or crevices. Let dry and sand to smooth.

3

Apply the stain to all sides of the wooden board and let it dry.

4

Use a strong adhesive like e6000 to attach the head and hands. I flipped the board over so that the bottom was facing up, since that side was smooth and had no lips. memo: I cut the hand at an angle so that it was facing the side. I used masking tape to help stabilize it while it dried.

5

Let dry completely and use the board as a Halloween treat. Wash gently by hand only.

Additional tips for making this fun Halloween cheese board:

  • Before you buy a piece of wood, look around your home to see if there’s anything you can recycle like I did. Consider visiting your local thrift store to check out some inexpensive options.
  • The hardest part of this project was attaching the skeleton hand. I used masking tape to hold it in place on the outside while it dried, which helped.

This Halloween platter might be one of my favorite DIY projects so far!

The stains are really pretty and the overall feel is luxurious. It’s a really unique piece. I’m looking forward to using this for my Halloween party! Sometimes I’m not sure how my ideas will turn out, but I’m excited and proud of this.

If you made it yourself, please let me know!
